MIAMI, FL — Chaos erupted at Miami International Airport early Thursday morning when a 28-year-old Canadian man, Cameron Dylan McDougall of Toronto, allegedly assaulted multiple travelers and a TSA officer in a series of unprovoked attacks.
According to officials, the incident occurred around 6:40 a.m. when McDougall attacked a traveler en route to the boarding gates. When another passenger attempted to intervene, McDougall turned on them as well. He then moved to the TSA security checkpoint, where he physically attacked a supervisory officer, repeatedly punching them in the face.
Authorities noted that McDougall had successfully passed through security moments before the assaults, raising questions about what triggered his outburst.
This wasn’t McDougall’s first altercation at the airport. Just a day earlier, he reportedly caused a disturbance on a flight, which forced the aircraft to return to Miami. While details of that incident remain unclear, it has added to the growing list of charges against him.
McDougall was promptly arrested and now faces multiple charges, including battery on a police officer, battery on a person over the age of 65, and misdemeanor battery.
The Transportation Security Administration condemned the attacks in a statement, emphasizing their commitment to the safety of both employees and travelers. “This unprovoked and violent behavior is unacceptable, and we will support the prosecution of this individual to the fullest extent of the law,” the agency said.
The injured TSA officer and other victims were treated at the scene, and their injuries are reportedly non-life-threatening.
As McDougall remains in custody, authorities are reviewing the events leading up to the incident to ensure appropriate security measures are in place. Meanwhile, the incident serves as a reminder of the pressures faced by airport staff in maintaining safety and order in one of the nation’s busiest travel hubs.
